iu, ole miss, and oregon take care of business

I hate to say it but Thursday slate of games was a bit of a let down, thankful we were able to be saved by Ole Miss holding onto a win even with the refs blatantly trying to be Georgia in the game literally until the last second.

Let’s get started with the early afternoon slate. It isn’t often that in a meaningful game like Oregon and Texas Tech that you have a team’s offense shit the bed the way Tech did. All the talk going into this game was J-Rod’s Heisman standing and the way that this Tech defensive line gets after the QB but at no point was the offense brought and this should have sounded the alarms. Tech’s offense couldn’t have fallen on their face any harder yesterday. There was a point late in the game where it would have been exciting if there was a possession that went beyond the 50-yard line in a PLAYOFF game. Now defense that was discussed did try their best to step up and the final scoreboard definitely doesn’t paint the picture of the entire game. You would think spending $40 million on a team would provide for some more explosion and it did for most of the year until you run into Phil Knight money. Oregon despite playing a top defense were able to make a enough plays to pull it off but couldn’t finish drives they way they are used to. This game went into halftime 6-0 game in favor of Oregon. Looking at the overall product while the game sucked there are some bright spots beyond what was already touched on. Oregon has the potential to get back Evan Stewart who has not seen the field all year with a knee injury, Oregon’s defense seems to be getting hot at the right time, and for the most part they are moving on with minimal injuries. Other than what was already talked about there is not much else that sticks out.

Pretty simply Indiana looks to be the best team in College football hands down while not exciting or flashy they are the best ball team in the nation. Indiana walks into games and does their job better than anyone else in the nation to the point where the talent although there doesn’t matter much. Cig walked into the Rose out his nuts on the table and beat the shit out of a reeling Alabama team. Mendoza went 14 of 16 for only 192 yards and 3 touchdowns putting up a just about perfect stat line. Alabama on the other side didn’t have the answer for a Big Ten offensive line. They looked smaller, coached worse, and slow which is not something we are used from an SEC team “Powerhouse”. A bright spot if I am Alabama is that the backup Qb looked impressive and could throw the laces off the ball. i do believe despite what he said that this was the last time we saw Ryan Williams in a Bama jersey. Look for Williams to hit the portal and keep an eye on teams like Oregon, LSU, and Michigan.

For the most exciting game that really did save the day, did Ole Miss losing Kiffin make them better? I think the answer is for sure yes as it created a common enemy and how cares that Kiffin literally has nothing to do with the opponents that are playing its working nonetheless. Chambliss looked far and away the best player on the field but there were many plays that made you put your head in your hands and then somehow worked out in favor of Ole Miss. Ole Miss came out very sluggish and in my opinion scared of the logo across the filed but turned it around in the second half. Georgia was able to methodically work down the field and impose their will in the first half with Stockton making plays through the air and with his legs. Now Stockton did get his block knocked off on a pass attempt but he stayed composed just like when he went into the game last year in the SEC Championship. The second half of this game was a completely different story. I am not sure what Golding said in the locker room at halftime but it should be used coming out of the gates next week against a much better Miami team. Ole Miss should be thanking their kicker for keeping them in the game until Golding speech. The second half was a complete 180 from the first half with Ole Miss deciding that they are the better team with more athletes. The shitshow that was the reffing late in the game was and I can not overstate this TERRIBLE. Not only was there two absolutely terrible pass interference calls on crucial plays which kept Georgia in the game, the last second fuckery with the last seconds couldn’t have worse. First off with 6 second why try the backward passes on the kickoff at least give the offense a chance to do that but to call a safety with 1 second left clearing giving Georgia another opportunity is crazy. What makes it worse is that Georgia was given the opportunity for an onside kick which okay but it is somehow recovered and no time goes off the clock giving Georgia once again another opportunity. poor Ole Miss celebrate three times before being awarded the win. There has to be something done to keep the refs from making it about them in crucial end of game situations. I get wanting to not have the game end of a reffing error but that shit last night terrible.

With the matchups being released I would love to selfishly see a reseeding take place to make the games for exciting because while a good game a do not want to see Indiana and Oregon play again but seeing Indiana play the lower seed in Miami would be exciting.
