transfer portal madness
With the transfer portal opening up yesterday there have been some interesting additions which are starting to make me turn on the idea of the portal or at least want to see changes occur.
For starters the idea Nick Saban has been preaching regarding moving the portal window to align with the academic calendar to create a better system allowing for players to be able to wait until their season is over to decide their future. Although the window official opened yesterday we say players from across the country declare weeks ago. Once again I am not a college football homer by any means but something has to be done to sanction the current system.
Speaking of sanctions, we need to establish a limit of times you can transfer. Believe I understand trying to find the best situation for you but some these guys are going on their 4th or 5th schools (TJ Finley is time to hang it up). At some point the dream of playing college football is over and it is time to use the degree which is some cases should be damn near a doctorate for how long they have been going to school. I say all of this as fan and alumni of a team that cannot develop players so they solely depend on bringing in players from the portal. I completely understand the stories of Cam Ward or Trinidad using the system to find a home in a Power 4 conference from small schools but when you guys like Micah Hudson who keeps entering just to sit on the bench or Conrad Hussey who doesn’t get his way so he leaves just to hit the portal the next year it’s time for some regulations to be established. Back in the day something as small as opting out of the bowl game caused NFL scouts to put an asterisks next to players name I wonder what having three or four schools on your resume does.
I would be reminded if I didn’t mention something about FSU. It looks like once again we will be in the running for second tier players. A bright spot that has been established by our new GM is that he has managed to resign two key players in Rawls and Thomas both young impactful players. As we progress through the offseason we will see how the team pans out but I am sure come August you will see my breakdown the schedule with never few losses. It is what it is.
